The issues facing quality of life for District 2 Escambia County citizens that need attention are blight and trash removal, county polices that address and enforce ordinance to address the homeless crisis, expansion and enhancement of Gulf Beach-Sorrento-Theo Baars Bridge, real storm water management and updated basin plans, as well as preserving our beaches and waterways.
As of 2017, the annual economic impact of NAS Pensacola and Tenet Commands on the Pensacola economy was $1.3B. The military presence is essential to continued Escambia County economic development, growth, and stability. However, the base has a primary mission to train and equip military warfighters, protect, and preserve base assets, and enhance community engagement with access to the National Naval Aviation Museum, Pensacola Lighthouse, Fort Barrancas, and Barrancas National Cemetery.
It is vital to have a Commissioner that is an experienced executive. A Commissioner appointed to multiple Executive Steering Committees and Board of Directors overseeing many distinctive projects for over a decade. I am committed to working relentlessly with other Commissioners for the overall good of the citizens of Escambia County. I was trusted to be a Command Managed Equal Opportunity Officer (CMEO) at two commands over my 33-year career. I can’t express the importance enough of valuing and treating all people with dignity and respect. It effects morale and mission. I am committed to a transparent proactive government with robust input and involvement from citizens to ensure the best policies are implemented.
Strong public safety is vital to citizens being able to live free, secure, and happy. Mike is a strong advocate of law enforcement and will never defund the police. He believes Firefighters and First Responders are professionals that must be paid more to perform their duties. He is the only candidate with extensive Emergency Operation Center experience and understands the importance of survivability related to time of crisis and the Medical Golden Hour or interventional therapy.
Mike is committed to being a fulltime Commissioner. Representing more than 64,000 citizens and a 500+ million-dollar annual budget means Mike is “All in All the Time.” The everyday responsibility of oversight on county projects alone is vital so we don’t waste taxpayer dollars. The need for daily follow-up and engagement with other agencies to assure things are moving along appropriately is not only essential but should be an expectation.
